The 2010 Ice Festival itinerary below will give you an idea of what to look forward to for next years celebration!

 

Leavenworth Winter Getaway

Leavenworth, Washington - Your Bavarian Getaway invites you to experience Bavarian Ice Fest 2009. Enjoy a weekend of outdoor activities for everyone including Leavenworth’s famous Smooshing contest, the Ice Cube Scramble for kids 6 and under, the Bavarian Mug Relay, Snow Sculptures, and Dog Sled Pulling Competition. Join us as we continue the winter fun and be sure to not miss the Firework’s on Sunday evening.

Saturday, January 17th

~Snow Sculpture~

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Lions Club Park-*New Location! (between City Hall & Swimming Pool)

Max. 5 People per sculpture. Judging begins promptly at 3 p.m. Awards are given at the gazebo at 4 p.m.
Divisions: Adult, Mixed Group, Junior, Youth

~Great Frisbee Sweep~

11:00 a.m. Front Street (on the street)

A true test of housekeeping and coordination. Sweep a Frisbee from one end of front street to the other. The trick? Keep the frisbee under control at all times.
Divisions: Junior, Youth, Kid

~Ice Cube Scramble~

12:00 p.m. Front Street Park (East of Gazebo)

A great event for children. Kids and tots scramble to collect colored iced cubes each with a surprise inside including money, toys, or icicle junction tokens.
Divisions: Kid, Tot

~Snowball Toss~

12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Front Street Park (By the Gazebo)

An old carnival standby with a winter twist.
Divisions: Youth, Kid, Tot

~Bavarian Mug Relay~

1:00 p.m. Front Street (on the street)

Show your speed and grace. How do those Leavenworth Waiters and Waitresses do it? Teams of 2 make it through the obstacle course relay style with mugs full of - what else? - ice water.
Divisions: Adult, Junior, Youth

~Smooshing Contest~

Sponsored by the Enzian Inn
2:00 p.m. Front Street (on the street)

Equipment: Two 2"x4"x10' boards with foot straps for 4 people. No alterations may be made to any part of the boards (no waxing, planing, etc.) Evidence of tampering results in disqualification. A Board Buster at the start line inspects boards prior to each heat.
RULES: 1) Single elimination event
2) Teams : 4 per team
3) Multiple heats may be run in each division (determined by the number of registered teams)
Divisions: Business/Commercial, Adults, Mixed Ages, Junior

~Tug O' War~

3:00 p.m. Front Street Park (East of Gazebo)

RULES: 1) Max. 7 people per team
2) No spiked footwear
3) Choppers/ leather gloves must be worn by each team member
4) the winner goes on to play the next team until only one winner remains per division.
Divisions: Adult Men, Adult Women, Junior, Youth

~NW Dog Sled Pulling Competition~

3:30 p.m. Front Street Park (West of Gazebo)

A sanctioned event of the International Weight Pull Association.
The IWPA is a non-profit corporation that promotes the
sport of dog pulling and the working heritage of all dogs.
The IWPA also promotes a program to keep dogs in good
physical condition with a constructive outlet for canine
competition. All breeds of dogs from cocker spaniels to
Saint Bernards are able to compete for regional and
national points to qualify for international competition.
There are eight weight classes, each dog competes
in only their weight class.
Non-members “provisional members” may pull, but will
gain no points.
Supplies & weights provided by Marson & Marson Lumber, Inc.

~Dog Sled Rides on Blackbird Island~

11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Follow signs to Waterfront Park

Sunday, January 18th

~Winter Fun Fest at Leavenworth Ski Hill~

9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Leavenworth Ski Hill

Tubing Park/ Snowshoeing / Downhill Skiing Come play int he snow at Leavenworth Ski Hill. Just North of Town on Ski Hill Drive. There will be all sorts of activities to check out. Enjoy free snowshooe demos, a snowshoe trail, a snowshoe race and more!

The Leavenworth Winter Sports Club's purpose is to promote health, fitness, and fun through skiing and other winter sports by providing quality facilities, education, and activities to the community.

Since 1928 the LWSC has been facilitating winter recreation in the Leavenworth area. Traditionally the 'base' of their operations has been up at the 'Ski Hill' where today they offer two rope tows, a Nordic jumping hill, a tubing hill, and 8km of Nordic trails of which 5 are lit for night skiing. They currently maintain 26km of trails at 3 locations in the valley. These trails are groomed 7 days a week! The entire family can enjoy a large variety of winter activities for an unbelievably affordable price right here in Leavenworth! LWSC's facilities offer cross country skiing, downhill skiing, ski jumping, snow-boarding, snowshoeing, a terrain park, and tubing park. ~Dog Sled Rides on Blackbird Island~

10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Follow signs to Waterfront Park

An expert sledder will provide rides around
Blackbird Island on a real Dog Sled.

After a weekend of playing in the snow - Get your snow shoes off and your dancing shoes on and warm up with some great music at the Gazebo.

~Fireworks Over Leavenworth~

6:00 p.m. In the Sky to the West

Gather at the Front Street Gazebo for a Leavenworth salute to the New Year featuring the German Bollers followed by music and fireworks over the snow and Village! Fireworks by Marty Schmoker, Licensed Pyro Technicin

* Waiver must be signed by participant or parent/guardian if under age 18.

* Register on event day at gazebo.
